Ferguson outlasts Hejtmanek at Hogback Hustle in New Castle
Ninety-three runners and walkers braved the uphill and coasted on the long downhill of Castle Valley and the streets of New Castle at Saturday’s annual Hogback Hustle 5k.
Hometown boys Justin Ferguson and Josh Hejtmanek of New Castle came in as the lead runners of the pack, as Ferguson, 16 minutes, 38 seconds won the overall race title, with Hejtmanek settling for runner-up with a time of 17:46. Ryan Wilch recorded a time of 18:31 for third place overall.
The ladies were led to the finish line by Angela Dunn, who was seventh place overall with a quick timing of 21:23. Glenwood’s Eric Diemoz was close on the heels of Dunn by clocking in at 21:55 for second place in the women’s division and eighth place overall. McKenzie Clark placed third for the females at 22:40.
The Hogback Hustle was the fifth race in the Colorado River Valley Charity Race Series. The last stop on the popular six-race circuit will take place on Saturday, August 5 with the Cheatin’ Woodchuck Chase 5-mile Run which will be held at the scenic Rifle Mountain Park.
