Former Bear among players suspended at Mesa State

GRAND JUNCTION – Four Mesa State women’s basketball players, including former Rifle High School standout Megan Langstaff, have been suspended indefinitely for violating unspecified team rules.Langstaff, Lori Eddy and Amber Kirchmer, all seniors, and sophomore Emily Steele were suspended before practice Wednesday.”They’re great kids; they just made some bad decisions, and we’ve got team rules,” head coach Timi Brown said.Langstaff, who started the season as a team captain, averaged 8.5 points and 4.4 rebounds in 17 games. The suspensions leave Mesa State (6-12, 3-7 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) with nine players, five of them freshmen. The suspensions will obviously lead to more playing time for some of the younger players, including freshman Krista Wagstrom, a Rifle High graduate, and sophomore Stephanie Kemp, a former standout at Basalt High.On Friday, the Mavericks fell to Fort Lewis College, 83-45, in Durango. Brittany Rowley led with 10 points. Kemp scored four points and Wagstrom had two points in the loss.Mesa State was scheduled to play at Adams State Saturday.
