Forney builds lead at golf tourney

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado – Rifle’s Loren Forney scorched the field in the second round of the Western Colorado Golf Association Junior, building on what was an already sizable lead in girls 16- to 18-year-old division play on Tuesday.The junior-to-be at Rifle High School carded a 71 at Tiara Rado Golf Course in Grand Junction to give her a two-round total of 154 with only an 18-hole round today at Lincoln Park Golf Course remaining. Next on the leaderboard is Jordan Fellhauer at 170, followed by Whitney Brofos at 171.Basalt High School grad Connor Rakowski sat in fourth place through two rounds in the boys 16-18 field. He carded a 73 on Tuesday after shooting a 77 at Bookcliff Country Club on Monday for a score of 150. Calen Hoppe leads the age division with a 145.Rifle High School grad Shawn Cruse was 10th at 161 and Glenwood Springs High School junior-to-be Michael Braklow was 18th with a 174. Golfers conclude tournament play today at Lincoln Park with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
