Free throws earn win for Demons

BASALT – Glenwood Springs hit on 4-of-10 free throws in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter. The Demon boys held on despite Basalt’s hitting a 3-pointer at the buzzer for a 61-60 non-league win over Basalt Thursday.

Jesse Hansen pulled the Demons to a three-point lead with a field goal in the final minute, and Marco Salmen secured the win on a free throw after a Basalt personal foul.

Timon Fish scored a game-high 17 points for the Demons, who earned their second straight win in as many games. Sophomore Sean Flohr had 12, with three 3-pointers.

Andrew Blake pulled down 11 rebounds and added eight points.

Kyle Kappelli had 16 points for the Longhorns before fouling out in the game’s final seconds. Travis Schwan finished with 11.

The Demons travel to Montrose on Saturday for their final game prior to the holiday break. Basalt resumes play on Jan. 10 at Olathe.
