The prep wrestling and girls swimming and diving seasons are hitting their postseason peaks and the basketball season continues, with the playoffs nearing. All should contribute to an exciting week of sports locally. Here are the top games on the slate for Feb. 11-17:

Girls prep basketball, Grand Valley at Hotchkiss, 6 p.m. ” Hotchkiss can play a little, as evidenced by their sweep of local teams Roaring Fork and Coal Ridge this past weekend.

The 10-3 Bulldogs, in second place in the 3A Western Slope League, should provide 13-2 Grand Valley ” leader of the 2A WSL and ranked sixth in the state in the classification by RockyPreps ” with a heck of a test.

Girls prep swimming and diving, Class 4A state meet at EPIC, Fort Collins, 9 a.m. ” Glenwood Springs will send several of its best splashers to state in Fort Collins starting Thursday.

Sierra Grove (50- and 100-yard freestyle), Ali Schaiberger (200 free), Keevyn Scholl (100 breaststroke), Jessica Betts (1-meter diving) and two relay teams (200 and 400 free) will represent the Demons at the 4A state meet. On the schedule for Friday are the 4A preliminaries.

Prep wrestling, region tournaments ” Area wrestling teams will be all over the Western Slope Friday and Saturday as they vie for trips to their respective state tournaments at regionals.

Class 4A Glenwood Springs and Rifle will take the mat at Moffat County High School in Craig, while 3A Coal Ridge treks to Buena Vista and 2A Grand Valley travels to Grand Junction.

Girls prep basketball, Rifle at Glenwood Springs, 6 p.m. ” Rifle and Glenwood match up in the first-ever contest in Glenwood Springs High School’s newly constructed gymnasium.

If history is any indicator, this could be a big-time matchup. Last season, the Bears and Demons had a penchant for wacky, down-to-the-wire finishes. Glenwood last year went 3-1 against Rifle, including two league games that involved four overtimes.

The Demons prevailed 67-47 in the teams’ previous 4A WSL meeting this season.

Boys prep basketball, Coal Ridge at Aspen, 7 p.m. ” Coal Ridge and Aspen last played on Jan. 25 and the Titans kept it close early despite looking jittery and overmatched in a 51-34 loss. If Coal Ridge can stay composed from the outset, it could challenge the Skiers.

Boys prep basketball, Rifle at Glenwood Springs, 7:30 p.m. ” The grand opening of a new gymnasium and a storied rivalry should pack quite the entertainment punch for basketball fans in attendance at Glenwood Springs High School on Friday.

It’s only fitting that the Bears and Demons christen Glenwood’s new gym. The teams last met on Jan. 16, with Rifle eking out a 49-46 win that came down to the final buzzer.

Boys prep basketall, Roaring Fork at Gunnison, 7:30 p.m. ” Toiling in the shadows of 3A WSL powerhouses Aspen and Roaring Fork, 9-5 Gunnison is quietly putting together a solid season. The Cowboys lost a Jan. 25 meeting with the Rams in Carbondale by a count of 61-50.

Prep wrestling, region tournaments ” The second and, surely, the most exciting day of regional wrestling action. A trip to the Pepsi Center in Denver for the Feb. 21-23 state meet is on the line.

Girls prep swimming and diving, Class 4A state meet at EPIC, Fort Collins, 10:30 a.m. ” Saturday’s 4A action in Fort Collins includes diving prelims (10:30 a.m.) and the swimming and diving finals (3:30 p.m.).
