Garfield County features many activities; so many in fact that your vacation schedule might seem packed fuller than your hiking pack.

So how do you fit in an epic bike ride?

Breathe easy. Glenwood Springs outfitters have you covered.

Many adventure companies in the Roaring Fork Valley offer shuttle services and bike rentals. Here are four.

Sunlight Ski & Bike Shop

Sunlight Mountain Resort, known for its terrific Rocky Mountain skiing in the winter, also runs summertime bike rentals and shuttles to popular locations on the Glenwood Canyon Recreation Trail and Rio Grande Trail out of its bike shop at 309 Ninth St. in Glenwood Springs.

The Glenwood Canyon shuttle takes you from downtown Glenwood Springs to Dotsero (a 16-mile ride) or to Bear Ranch (a 14.5-mile ride). The Glenwood Canyon trail winds through a spectacular canyon, with magnificent views of the Colorado River below.

The Rio Grande Trail, a 39.5-mile path connecting Glenwood Springs to Aspen, is another beautiful local ride. The shuttle takes you to the Catherine Store Bridge above Carbondale, so you have a gorgeous — and slightly downhill — 16.5-mile ride back to Glenwood Springs.

Rent bikes for your trip from Sunlight’s bike shop, or bring your own and hop on the shuttle for $15 per person with a minimum of two riders.

Colorado Adventure Center

Colorado Adventure Center has three “biking base camps” in central Colorado: Breckenridge, Frisco and Glenwood Springs. They provide hybrid/comfort rentals, mountain bikes and kids’ bikes, trailers or tag-a-longs. All daily bike rentals include a free shuttle service. The Glenwood location is part of Glenwood Canyon Resort, just off the I-70 No Name exit.

Choose to ride down either side of Vail Pass to Summit County or Vail, or take a shuttle from downtown Glenwood Springs into beautiful Glenwood Canyon along the Colorado River. Either way, you’ll enjoy the downhill pedal and have plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy the views, take pictures or have a picnic lunch. Colorado Adventure Center also bundles rafting trips with bike tours, so you’ll get in a full Colorado day outdoors.

Glenwood Adventure Company

The Glenwood Adventure Co., at 723 Cooper Ave., is another locally based outfitter that offers an array of adventure options, providing bike rentals and shuttle services as well. When you rent a bike, shuttle service is complimentary, and it takes you from downtown Glenwood Springs to Glenwood Canyon for a relaxing cruise back to town. The shuttle also can take you to Carbondale to ride on the Rio Grande Trail. Or you can rent bikes on an hourly basis for a more unstructured ride around the valley.

Canyon Bikes

Canyon Bikes, which is part of Blue Sky Adventures rafting company, also provides shuttle services along the Glenwood Canyon trail. Shuttles run several times a day, but Canyon Bikes recommends starting early to accommodate sightseeing in the side canyons along the way.

Another option, just two blocks away from the office, is the Rio Grande Trail. You can rent by the hour or day and ride as far as you want.

If you’d rather explore Glenwood Springs, Canyon Bikes is located in the historic Hotel Colorado, next to the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool and the Yampah Vapor Caves. You can ride directly from Canyon Bikes on an hourly basis and take in all that Glenwood offers, from shopping and dining to a short hike up to Doc Holliday’s grave.

Canyon Bikes understands that visitors explore with their furry friends as well. For that reason, they have a trailer designated specifically for dogs.

For bike shuttle services, call each outfitter individually to ask about availability.
