Gawrys paces Basalt in win

ASPEN ” Adam Gawrys drained a pair of treys and finished with 17 points as the Basalt boys basketball team downed Aspen 53-41 at Aspen High School Saturday.

Basalt led the Class 3A Western Slope League contest by four points after the first quarter and expanded that advantage to 29-23 at halftime. The Longhorns sealed the contest by outscoring Aspen 15-9 in the final frame.

Joining Gawrys in double figures for Basalt was Darren Duroux, who finished the night with 14 points.

On Friday night, the Longhorns dropped a tight 52-50 league game to Cedaredge. No other information was available.

The Longhorns record moves to 3-2 in league (3-5 overall), while Aspen drops to 2-3 (4-6).


Roaring Fork 90, Hotchkiss 59

CARBONDALE ” Center Nic Lough scored a game-high 30 points as the Roaring Fork Rams boys basketball team stayed undefeated with another easy win Friday night.

The Rams led by 15 points after the first quarter and went on to down Western Slope League foe Hotchkiss 90-59.

Jake Boyle hit three treys and finished with 18 points, while Roaring Fork teammates Dan Markoya and Aaron Markham added 17 and 12, respectively.

Hotchkiss (0-3 WSL, 2-6 overall) had an excellent showing from Michael Smith, who led the Bulldogs with 28 points.
