Glenwood All-Stars take Steamboat tournament

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS – The Glenwood Springs All-Stars, a 13-14 year-old youth baseball team consisting of players from Glenwood, New Castle, Carbondale and Basalt won the 20-team Triple Crown Sports tournament held here last weekend.

Glenwood defeated Big R Stores from Lamar, 8-5 in the championship game.

Starting pitcher Rory Johnson earned the victory with Beau Chicoine picking up a save in relief.

Zach Zerbato had two hits, including a double with four RBIs, and Barrett Jensen had three hits in four at bats to lead the offense.

Glenwood rebounded from an opening-game loss on Friday with six straight wins to reach the championship final. In seven games, the All Stars outscored their opponents, 77-16.

Johnson had a 3-0 win-loss record in the tournament. Kyle Raaflaub was 2-0 on the mound.

Jensen paced the offense with a .543 batting average with 19 hits in 35 at bats. Zerbato had a 1-1 pitching record while hitting .411.
