Glenwood, Rifle fare well in golf tourneys

GUNNISON – The Glenwood Springs High School golf team notched its best showing of the season Wednesday, posting a fifth place finish at the Gunnison Invitational held at Dos Rios Golf Course.

Glenwood placed eighth in the 17-team tournament with a team total of 238. Aspen won the tournament with 227, followed by Montezuma-Cortez and Durango with 228. Rifle finished fifth with a 232 team score.

Jesse Hansen led Glenwood with a 75, good for fifth place on the individual leaderboard. It was his top score of the season. Other Glenwood scores were: Jacob Ziemann, 81; Sean Flohr, 81; Matt McAdow, 91, Andy Buchholz, 94.

On Tuesday, Rifle had another strong showing to win the 28-team Panther Invitational at Devil’s Thumb Golf Course in Delta. Rifle carded a team total of 227, edging Durango and Steamboat Springs by a stroke.

Jeb Savage paced Rifle with a round of 74, good for an eighth-place tie. Shea Sena of Montezuma-Cortez took the individual title with a round of 68.

Glenwood placed 16th in the event with 252, while Roaring Fork was 19th with 259.

Glenwood’s scores were: Sean Flohr, 82; Jesse Hansen, 83; Andy Buchholz, 88; Jacob Ziemann, 87; Matt McAdow, 91.
