The Glenwood Springs Demons made sure they wouldn’t have to play the extra pigtail game for next week’s district tournament with a 65-59 victory over Delta Friday night in a Class 4A Western Slope League basketball game at Chavez Spencer Gym.

Sean Flohr led the attack with a game-high 26 points and John Faris chipped in 11 for the Demons, who had six players with five or more points.

Leading 31-29 at the half, the Demons weren’t able to pull away until they sealed the contest with a 12-for-18 showing from the foul line in the fourth quarter.

Seniors Jeff Screen and Oscar Jurado, playing their final game at Chavez Spencer, scored eight and five points, respectively.

The Demons will likely have the seventh seed for the district tournament and face Montezuma-Cortez in the first round.

The results from Saturday’s game at Palisade were not available at press time.
