Glenwood splits with Battle Mountain

Glenwood Springs and Battle Mountain split games on Saturday night with the Demon girls winning at home 42-32 and the Huskies’ boys winning big at Eagle-Vail (85-55).

The Glenwood girls bolted to an 11-0 lead and eventually a 15-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Battle Mountain rallied briefly before the Demons won, improving to 6-4 in the Western Slope League, 10-7 overall.

Kessie Schwanebeck led Glenwood with 13 points. Jeri Polowchena added seven. Nine different Demons scored.

Katie Russell led the Huskies with 10.

In the boys game, the Huskies blew open the contest in the second and third quarters. They outscored the Demons 29-11 in the third. Josh Henry led Battle Mountain with 17 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists. Jimmy Medina and Austin Wignall scored 15 each. Andy Linke had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Brian Pyland paced the Demons with 16 points. Chas Salmen added nine. Jeremy Wilson and Ben Leonard scored eight each.
