Glenwood Springers athletes reach Junior Olympics national meet
Four members of the Glenwood Springers Track & Field club have qualified for the USA Track & Field Junior Olympics National Championships, which are scheduled for July 21 through 27 in Houston.
The athletes posted their qualifying marks and times at the USATF Region 10 Championships in Colorado Springs this past weekend.
Reid Swanson, who posted a first-place time of 5 minutes, 16.32 seconds in the 9- to 10-year-old 1,500 meters, qualified for the national meet.
Finishing fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 3 inches, was Bryce Risner, who also qualified for nationals in the 13- to 14-year-old age group.
Two Springers athletes qualified in two events: Justin Thompson in the 13-14 100 hurdles (fourth place, 15.56) and 13-14 triple jump, and Alex Cutright in the 15-16 2,000 meter steeplechase (fourth, 8:34.57) and high jump fourth, 5-5).
Other Springers participants in the regional meet included Sophia Vigil (11-12 1,500, sixth place) and Bailey Risner (9-10 shot put, 11th place).
