Glenwood to host Delta in Class 3A football quarterfinals Saturday

GLENWOOD SPRINGS — Officials on Monday announced the start time for the Class 3A state playoff football game between Glenwood Springs High School and Delta.

The game between the No. 12-seeded Demons and 13th-seeded Panthers will kick off at 1 p.m. Saturday at Stubler Memorial Field on the campus of Glenwood Spring High School.

The Demons (8-3 overall), coming off a 14-13 victory at fifth-seeded Elizabeth this past Saturday, earned the home game since they’re the higher seed in the 16-team state playoff bracket.

Rules set down by the Colorado High School Activities Association state that a playoff team that advances will host the following round of the playoffs if it has played the least number of home games coming into next round. If both of the advancing teams have played the same amount of home playoff games, the team with the higher seed will host.

Like Glenwood, Delta (8-3) also picked up a dramatic one-point road victory in the first round on Saturday. The Panthers won in Broomfield, defeating fourth-seeded Holy Family, 42-41, in overtime.

The game features a matchup between the third- and fourth-place finishers in the Class 3A Western Slope League. Glenwood, the WSL’s third-place finisher behind Palisade and Rifle, defeated Delta, 15-7, on Sept. 27 at Stubler. The victory was part of the eight-game winning streak the Demons have reeled off since beginning the season 0-3.
