Glenwood’s Lochhead shows well in G.S. races
Glenwood Springs resident Ian Lochhead skied to a trio of top-10 finishes in FIS giant slalom races held last weekend at Winter Park and Steamboat Springs.Lochhead posted finishes of 10th and fourth at the Rocky-Central races at Winter Park. He also turned in the second fastest times on both second runs, and was second overall for junior racers under 19 years of age.At Steamboat Springs Lochhead finished eighth overall with finishes of eighth and sixth in the first and second runs, respectively. In the final race of the four-day set, Lochhead was 10th after the first run, but crashed on the second run.The Rocky-Central races featured skiers 16 years and older from the Midwest and Colorado. A field of over 120 racers competed in the four races.Lochhead, who was an All-State honorable mention midfielder on the Glenwood Springs High School soccer team this fall, is a former member of the Sunlight Ski Team and attends Vail Valley Academy during the ski season while competing for Ski Club Vail.-In other youth skiing action, the Sunlight Ski team showed well at the USSA Age Class giant slalom races held at Breckenridge on Sunday. Dakota Stonehouse posted a pair of top-10 finishes, as did Whitney Setterberg. Dillon Felkey also notched a top 10 in the morning race.Stonehouse was sixth in J4 boys in the morning race and eighth in the afternoon. Setterberg placed eighth in the J4 girls’ morning race and was ninth in the afternoon. Felkey (J3 boys) was 10th in the morning, but crashed in the afternoon race.
