Grand valley beats up on Cedaredge

CEDAREDGE, Colorado ” With the team’s regular head coach Mike Johnson up in the box calling plays, Grand Valley put a 58-0 hurt on Cedaredge on Friday.

Johnson, recovering from an appendectomy-related infection that’s had him in and out of the hospital over the last month or so, watched his team improve to 8-1 overall and to 6-0 in the 2A Western Slope League.

The Cardinals built a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 35-0 advantage by intermission.

“It was kind of a good mixture tonight,” Grand Valley assistant coach Sean Rice said. “We even had a safety.”

Next week, the Cardinals look to wrap up a league title against visiting Olathe in a Halloween regular-season finale.

Both Grand Valley and Olathe are 6-0 in the 2A WSL after the Pirates beat up on Basalt 55-21 Friday night.
