CRAIG — Grand Valley High School sophomore Tyler Dove shot a tournament — and career — best score of 5-over 77 on Wednesday afternoon, winning the Moffat County Invitational tournament at Yampah Valley Golf Course.

Dove, one of two individuals who played for the Cardinals in the tournament, eked out a two-shot victory over Brandon Martin and Will Firestone of Class 4A Steamboat Springs. Andrew Firestone, also of Steamboat, finished fourth with an 80.

Steamboat Springs, thanks largely to those second-, third- and fourth-place finishes, won the team title with a score of 238. Rifle was second at 251, with Moffat County (258) and Palisade (259) close behind.

Rifle got an 81 from Wyatt Carter for a tie for fifth place with Rangely’s Marshal Way and an 82 from Jacob Smith, who finished in a four-way tie for seventh place.

Kade Hurst finished with a 131 for Grand Valley, which playss again Saturday at the Battle Mountain Invitational in Vail.
