The Glenwood Grizzlies Midget hockey team split their scheduled games at their own round-robin tournament Monday at the Glenwood Springs Community Center ice rink.Glenwood dropped a 3-0 decision to Steamboat Springs in the first game, as Steamboat goalie Jeremy Corporon stopped all nine of the Grizzlies’ shots on goal.Grizzlies netminder Keefe O’Connor matched Corporon in the first period, and turned away 13 Steamboat shots in the first two periods of play until the visitors’ Steven Padilla broke the scoreless tie with 1 minute, 16 seconds left in the second period.Cain Johnson and Dustin Montgomery added goals for Steamboat in the third period for the final score.Glenwood earned its tournament win without making an appearance on the ice when Oak Creek forfeited the game to the Grizzlies.After going .500 at the tournament, Glenwood is 11-4 on the season.The Grizzlies are off until the weekend of Jan. 7-8, when they take on Oak Creek for a three-game series at home, starting with an 8 p.m. contest against Oak Creek’s minor team on Friday, Jan. 7.On Saturday, Jan. 8, Glenwood has a divisional doubleheader scheduled against Oak Creek’s major (varsity) level team at 7:30 and 9 a.m.In junior varsity play on Monday, Glenwood defeated Steamboat, 3-1, and was shut out by Oak Creek, 3-0.
