Grizzlies Bantam Silver hockey team beats Craig twice

The Glenwood Springs Grizzlies Bantam Silver hockey team defeated the Craig Cougars twice this past Saturday at the Glenwood Springs Community Center rink.

Action started in the afternoon, when Glenwood team captain Mathew Thrun put the team on the scoreboard, off an assist by Brody Bittner. Blake Cloutier followed quickly with an unassisted goal of his own to make it 2-1 Glenwood after the first period.

Scoring resumed in the third period with Cloutier netting a goal, assisted by Erich Albrecht. Glenwood’s Gavin Olson brought the final score to 4-1 with an unassisted goal late in the game.

Goalie Lucca Trapani of Glenwood Springs stopped 12 of 13 shots put on the Grizzlies’ net by the Cougars. Glenwood outshot the Cougars substantially, putting 40 shots on the Craig goal.

The two teams played again Saturday night, with a similar result, as Glenwood prevailed, 7-1. Team Captain Mathew Thrun scored a hat trick and electrified the atmosphere and the home crowd at the rink. Glenwood’s Jake Burns scored off an assist by Bittner.

Hyland Barabe scored two goals and had an assist. Keenan Winger of Glenwood added a pair of assists during the game.

Josh Cook tended goal for an ailing Trapani, stopping all but one of nine shots-on-net from Craig. Glenwood had 19 shots on the Craig goal.

The Bantam Silvers are now 4-2 in league play. They play again at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Glenwood Springs.
