Grizzlies net wins on Saturday

The Glenwood Grizzlies Midget hockey team earned a pair of 4-1 victories in games played Saturday against Craig and Providence at the Community Center.

Glenwood broke a 1-1 tie by scoring three times in the third period.

Kevin Young of the Grizzlies posted the eventual game-winning goal, assisted by Shawn McKay near the end of the contest.



McKay had two scores, one in the first period as well as the Grizzlies’ fourth goal. Matt Miller also had a goal.

Goalie Robert Benjamin stopped 16 of 17 Providence shots, allowing the visitors their only goal in the second period.



Later, against Craig, goalkeepers Brian King and Keefe O’Connor combined to make 15 saves on the visiting Bulldogs as Glenwood pulled away early by scoring three goals in the first period.

McKay resumed his role as the Grizzlies’ main scoring threat in the night game ” scoring two more goals, sandwiched between scores by Tate Fairbanks and Jimmy Carter.

In a junior varsity contest Friday, Glenwood lost a tough 4-3 match to Aspen.

Ryan Galeski netted the first of two scores he’d posted in the first period for the game’s opening lead before Aspen tied it at 1-all with six seconds to go. Galeski scored the Grizzlies’ lone second-period goal with 9:47 left.

Tyler McCoy added Glenwood’s final score in the waning moments of the third period.
