Grizzlies tie, win in Telluride

The Glenwood Grizzlies youth hockey team made a long road trip to Telluride worthwhile on Friday and Saturday, coming away with a 1-1 tie and a 3-2 win.In Friday’s matchup, Jimmy Carter put the puck in the net off an assist from Trevor Kreoger to give Glenwood a 1-0 lead in the first period. Telluride scored a goal in the second period and the 1-1 lock held for the rest of the game.Jesse Cline and Tyler McCoy scored the first two goals for the Grizzlies on Saturday, with McCoy’s coming on an assist from Levi Sherman. Telluride scored two goals in the second period to tie the game 2-2. Carter then netted the game winner at the 7:34 mark in the third quarter.In the third period of each game, Glenwood killed off 5-on-3 power plays to preserve the tie in the first game and then win in the second. Over the span of both games, Grizzly goalkeepers Robert Benjamin and Seth Carmitchel combined for a save percentage of 91.2 percent.Nate Miller played tough defense for Glenwood, shutting down multiple odd-man rushes.The Grizzlies are now 9-9-1 and over the next six weeks will face the toughest schedule in Glenwood team history, according to head coach Tim Cota.Glenwood will be back on the road this weekend when it will be playing in Pueblo, and then taking the ice in the Colorado Cup in Colorado Springs Jan. 5-7. Glenwood will then be hosting the Grizzly Classic Jan. 19-21 before playing in a tournament at the University of Denver over Presidents’ Day weekend in February.
