Grizzly Bantam A team falls four times

The Glenwood Grizzlies Bantam A hockey team had a frustrating set of games this past weekend, struggling to win in several close games.

The first on Friday night was against the CDYHL (Continental Divide Youth Hockey League) powerhouse, the Aspen Leafs. In a game in which the Leaves outshot the Grizzlies by a 2-1 margin, the Grizzlies lost 8-2. Two games on Saturday were one-goal victories (minus empty net goals) for Steamboat, and Glenwood’s final game on Sunday was a 5-2 loss to Steamboat. The Grizzlies played each game against Steamboat close, but came up short.

The Grizzlies scored a total of eight times over the weekend. Zac Mencimer scored three goals and Billet Porter also scored three times. John Jenson had his first goal of the season, and Samuel Liotta had the other goal. Lucas Bensch won all of his battles against the bigger kids on the other teams. Josh Cook had a statistically great weekend in goal, tallying 90 saves on 107 shots. Joel Rothman returned from an injury over the weekend to bring the team to its full roster.

The Grizzlies will try to add to their win column with the next games against Gunnison on the Jan. 4 and 5 weekend in Glenwood Springs.
