Grove qualifies for Junior Olympic swim championships
Sierra Grove of the Sopris Barracudas qualified for the state Junior Olympics in eight different swimming events recently in a big meet in Fort Collins.
Swimming at the Colorado State Age Group Short Course Championships at the EPIC Center, Grove qualified for JOs in her 10-and-under girls division.
On the opening day of the three-day meet, Grove was fifth in the 100-yard freestyle. She also was 13th in the 200 individual medley and 18th in the 50 butterfly.
The following night, she was seventh in the 200 freestyle and 14th in the 50 backstroke.
Then on Sunday, she won her qualifying heat and advanced to the finals of the 100 IM, where she finished eighth. She entered with a 26 ranking.
She also was sixth in the 50-yard freestyle and seventh in the 100-yard backstroke at the age group short course championships.
Grove, with limited training opportunities locally, travels an hour after school to train in a competition pool.
