GV’s Busch one short of a medal

Grand Valley’s Justin Busch had a tough road at the Class 2A State Wrestling Tournament, and came up one win short of medalist honors Saturday at the Pepsi Center in Denver.Busch won his first match, but couldn’t get by On the Mat’s top-ranked 145-pounder, Chad Behrens, of Merino, in the second round of the championship bracket.He kept his medalist hopes alive with a win over Holyoke’s Jonathan Franklin, but ran into No. 4-ranked Jeron Aragon, of Rockyford, in the consolation quarterfinals and couldn’t advance.Busch, a junior, finished the tournament with a 2-2 record and finished the season with a 32-11 overall record.Grand Valley’s other three state qualifiers all posted 1-2 marks at the tournament, with all three dropping their opening-round matches.Cody Miles (130 pounds) downed Josh Fringer in the first consolation match with a 6-5 decision, but couldn’t get by Walsh’s Shawn Cogburn.Sophomore Danny Manzanares (135) earned a 5-3 decision against Daniel Ornelas, of Rockyford, before being eliminated by Adam Martinez, of Antonito.Finally, at 189 pounds, Chanse Brackett pinned Andrew Gallegos in his first consolation match. Fleming’s Aaron Schanhals, however, ended Brackett’s run in the next round.
