Hansen named GSHS athlete of the week

Glenwood Springs High School senior Jesse Hansen won’t likely be wearing the Demon colors on the court or course anymore, but he’ll have plenty of memories on which to look back.

Hansen, who was selected by GSHS coaches and staff as the athlete of the week, was Glenwood’s top golfer this season.

The highlight of his senior season came in Montrose when he finished fourth with a round of 72.

But when it’s all said and done, Hansen said it’s probably the basketball games against Rifle he will remember most when he looks back at his prep career.

“Probably, the thing I will always remember is the Glenwood-Rifle basketball (rivalry),” Hansen said.

Hansen faced the Bears six times and his Demon teams – freshman through varsity – have a 3-3 record against Rifle.

The mark will stay at an even .500, as Hansen plans to forgo his senior basketball season in favor of playing hockey for the Glenwood Grizzlies with his twin brother Adam.

But, don’t be surprised to see him cheering on his former courtmates during the hoops season.

“If we don’t have Friday night hockey games, I’ll be there,” he said.
