Hershey track meetat GSHS today

Area kids looking for a way to stretch their muscles with a tinge of competition mixed in, can sign up for the annual Hershey youth track meet.The meet will take place at 4 p.m. today on the track at Glenwood Springs High School.The event is free to boys and girls, ages 9-14 as of December 31.Competitions scheduled to take place include individual, age-graded, runs at 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1,600 meters along with a 4×100 meter relay and the standing long jump and softball throw.Winners from the local meet advance to the Colorado state meet on June 26 at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood. State winners are eligible for selection to the Midwest Regional team, which travels to Hershey, Pen. for the national finals.The purpose of the program is to promote physical fitness and sportsmanship and to introduce and increase participation in the sport of track and field.The annual meet is locally produced by the Glenwood Springs Parks and Recreation Department with assistance by the G,enwood Springers youth track club.Pre-registration for the meet begins at 3:30 p.m. at the South entrance to the track. All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate. No cleated shoes are permitted on the track.Call the Recreation Department at 384-6301 for more information.
