Jack Cassidy leads way for Glenwood Springs at Class 4A state swim meet
THORNTON — Jack Cassidy managed an eighth-place individual finish in the 200-yard individual medley and the 500 freestyle on Saturday, highlighting the individual finishes by the Glenwood Springs High School boys swimming team at the Class 4A State Championships at Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center.
Cassidy, and Eagle Valley High School senior, earned a personal-best time of 2 minutes, 0.39 seconds in the 200 IM. His time of 4:53.37 in the championship finals of the 500 free was also good enough for eighth place.
Glenwood’s 200 medley relay team of Sebastian Joly (Vail Christian), Cassidy, Zachary Baker (home schooled, Carbondale), and Luke Herron (Vail Christian) swam to a 13th-place finish, finishing in 1:46.82. Joly was also on the Demons’ 200 freestyle relay team that included Stefan Buxman (Glenwood), Jon Birzon (Colorado Rocky Mountain School) and Zeb Thorsen (Glenwood). It finished 22nd in 1:42.69.
Also recording a strong finish was the Demons 400 freestyle relay team of Cassidy, Thorsen, Baker and Herron, which finished 16th in 3:35.01. Herron managed a personal-best 52.80 in the 100 freestyle for 27th place, and his time of 23.83 in the 50 free got him a 21st-place finish.
