Junior Gentlemen fall at first home game, but B-team wins

In its first home game of the season, the Carbondale Junior Gentlemen rugby team fought hard, but couldn’t come up with a victory, falling 15-0 to the Southwestern Arvada Rugby Men (SWARM) on Saturday in Basalt.

“The guys played good defense, but we just couldn’t find a way to score points,” said Jr. Gents head coach Rob Hurley. “SWARM is one of the top-five, if not top-three teams in Denver, so we did good. We were with them for most of the game.”

SWARM scored two tries, kicked one conversion kick and made one penalty kick for its 15 points.

Carbondale’s B-side did manage to record a win, scoring one try and holding SWARM to only a drop-kick score to win 7-3. Flanker Wylie Chenoweth scored the winning try for the Jr. Gents and Tony DiBacco kicked the two-point conversion.

“That win is a good sign for the future,” Hurley said.

Carbondale will be back on the pitch on Saturday when it hosts Bailey at Basalt Middle School at noon.
