Legg tallies both goals in Rifle win
RIFLE – Possession of the ball is an important element to winning soccer.
Playing a possession game, along with being patient on offense, were the keys to the Bears’ 2-0 nonleague win over Summit here Saturday.
Gerri Legg scored both Rifle goals in the second half, taking advantage of defensive miscues by the visiting Tigers.
Legg broke a scoreless tie in the 55th minute after batting down a loose ball on the right side of the penalty box, then firing it just inside in the far post.
Four minutes later, from the same spot, she gained control of the ball from a Tiger defender and booted home her second goal of the game.
“Legg finished real well on those goals, and she could have had a couple more,” said Taucher.
“I’m happy everything came together in the second half,” Legg said. “I knew the first goal was going to go in, but I wasn’t sure about the second one.”
In her first varsity start, junior Lindsey Railsback shut out the Tigers and had three saves.
Rifle begins Western Slope League play Thursday afternoon at Palisade.
