Local sports briefs: Kickball tournament takes place on May 30
The Glenwood Springs Parks & Recreation Department will hold its annual Kickoff to Summer Kickball Tournament, which is scheduled for May 30.
The tournament will be held at the Sayre Park baseball field. It will be played in a four-team, round-robin rally format followed by a championship game played between the two top teams in the tournament to that point. Teams must have eight to 12 players each and have no less than four women.
Cost is $150 per team, and participants are encouraged to wear costumes and/or unique uniforms. Winning teams will receive prizes. Teams must register by May 20.
Youth baseball, softball registrations in Glenwood
The Glenwood Springs Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for the upcoming youth baseball and softball seasons.
Games will begin on June 8, with the season extending to July 25. Age groups range from co-ed T-ball to baseball and softball for children ages 11 and 12. Games will be played at Sopris, Vogelaar and Sayre Parks.
Cost is $45 per player for T-ball, $55 for youth baseball and $65 for 11- to 12-year-old baseball, with discounts given to community center members. Registration costs will rise after the April 29 deadline. All athletes must be entered by no later than May 13.
Youth baseball, softball signups in New Castle
The New Castle Recreation Department is offering youth baseball and softball programs for the upcoming summer season.
Programs range from Pre T-ball and coach pitch to baseball and softball programs geared towards players ages 8 to 15.
Pre T-Ball, T-ball and coach pitch players will receive instruction on the fundamentals of throwing, catching and hitting. Cost is $40 for T-ball and $50 for coach pitch.
Baseball and softball teams with players aged 8 to 15 practice two to three times per week, with games one to two days per week. Games are played in the Colorado River Youth League. Baseball and softball registration fees are $75 per player.
Registration deadline is April 17.

Baseball, softball signups taking place in Rifle
The Rifle Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its summer baseball and softball leagues.
Age groups are for players ages 8 to 10 years old, 11 to 12 years old, and 13 to 15 years old. Ages are determined by the child’s age as of Aug. 1, 2015. Cost is $50 per player for all programs.
All registrations must be done in person at the Rifle Parks and Recreation office inside City Hall. The registration deadline is April 3.
