Longhorns’ Mulcahy selected to all-star squad
High school basketball ended for most seniors earlier this month, but Basalt’s Mariah Mulcahy will get at least one more game in before graduation.
The Longhorn senior has been selected to participate in the Colorado Coaches of Girls’ Sports All-State Basketball Games Saturday at Broomfield High School. Tipoff for the Class 3A game is at noon.
Mulcahy was nominated by coaches in the Western Slope League and coaches representing all the leagues decide the final roster. The senior players were chosen based on talent, dedication, team play and leadership, according to a CCGS press release.
Mulcahy finished the 2002-2003 campaign with a 15.8-point-per-game average with a game-high performance of 28 points against Gunnison.
Mulcahy was also solid in clutch games. She netted 21 points in the Western Slope League district championship game to lead Basalt to a 75-71 victory over rival Roaring Fork. In the state playoffs, the senior scored 15 or more points in three of the four games as the Longhorns (22-5) finished fourth.
