Glenwood Springs High School’s girls soccer team had two first-team players when the all-Class 4A Western Slope League girls soccer team was named by the league’s coaches.

The award winners were named after the regular season had ended. More all-league recognition went to Battle Mountain, which won the regular-season league title.

Glenwood seniors Laura McDermott and Jenna Brown were named to the first team. McDermott was a solid presence on the Demons’ back defensive line throughout the season and had a team-high 53 steals last season. Brown, who signed to play soccer for Fort Lewis College in Durango in the fall, led the Demons with nine goals and six assists this year.

Also earning all-league recognition was Glenwood Springs senior Dani Benzel, who received an honorable mention. Rifle High senior Kailee Cordova, who recently signed to play sports for Colorado Northwest Community College in Rangely, was also an honorable-mention award winner.

Eagle Valley’s Stephen Baxter was named the 4A WSL’s Coach of the Year. Palisade senior Katie Dunn was named the league’s Player of the Year.
