McMechan, Joiner pace RF at Wildcat golf invitational

FRUITA – Area prep golfers continued to show improvement as the Western Slope boys prep golf tour resumed on Monday.

Sean McMechan and Adam Joiner of Roaring Fork paced the effort of area golfers with identical scores of 72 at the 11-team Wildcat Invitational at Fruita’s Adobe Creek Golf Course.

High school golf teams can field three to five players, and total the three best scores for the team score.

The two Rams tied for third place individually to lead Roaring Fork High School to an area-best team score of 227 for fifth place.

Glenwood Springs concluded Monday’s tournament with a team score of 232 and finished sixth.

Individually, Demons Sean Flohr and Jesse Hansen carded equal rounds of 77, the two Glenwood golfers tied for 14th place.

Glenwood Springs’ Jacob Ziemann was one shot behind his two teammates at 78. Michael Flohr finished with an 80 and Connor Frey scored an 88.

Sam McKinley had the best round on Monday for Grand Valley High School with a 87. As a team, Grand Valley totaled 298.
