Mexican soccer team takes on valley squads

The Roaring Fork soccer league is bringing in some superior competition for a friendly tournament this weekend. Tecnológico de Monterrey soccer team, out of Mexico, will make a swing through Gates Soccer Park at Colorado Mountain College-Spring Valley to take on five local squads this weekend.”It will be very competitive,” said Martin Mendez, who organized the event with the rest of the league’s board of directors and Jesus Ramirez. “I think it’s going to be tough for any of (the local) teams to beat this team.”The respect for Tecnológico de Monterrey is well-deserved. The team is the two-time Mexican university-level national champion, according to Mendez.The local teams saddled with the task of playing the Mexican national champs include Tequezquite, Juventus, Ricardo’s Team, Montesillos and CD Sesori.Tecnológico de Monterrey is visiting Gates as part of a tour through the U.S. that includes a stop in Vail for another tournament next weekend.This weekend’s action starts today at 4 p.m. at Gates. Sunday’s schedule begins at 11 a.m. with the championship game scheduled for 6 p.m. There is a $2 charge for spectators.
