Olenick captures bronze at X Games

ASPEN Peter Olenick of Carbondale hung on to win the bronze medal in Mondays Ski Superpipe finals at the Winter X games on Monday.Olenick, who advanced to the finals with an eighth-place finish in the Ski Superpipe preliminaries, held earlier Monday, saved his best performance for last.In his third and final run of the finals Olenick recorded a best-run score of 91.0 points, surpassing his earlier scores of 61.0 and 85.65 in rounds one and two.Olenicks high-score in the third run briefly gave the Carbondale resident the lead until Swedens Jon Olsson surpassed the mark with a score of 91.33.Olsson, who had finished third in the prelims, then had his lead erased by event gold medalist Simon Dumonts 93.66 score in the third run.Dumont, of the United States, had the lowest score, a 34.0, in the first run of the finals. The American raised his marks in each of the next rounds.
