The Colorado Rocky Mountain School climbing team is off to an outstanding start this 2006-07 climbing season, and will host its biggest on-site competition of the year Saturday, Dec. 2.
The event, the Sopris Showdown 3, brings scores of climbers to CRMS’s newly expanded climbing wall for an event sponsored by Climbing magazine and sanctioned by the American Bouldering Series (ABS).
The competition at the CRMS gym runs from 6:30-9:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Categories range from open to recreational. Registration begins at 5 p.m.
Another ABS climbing event, the Spring Valley Showdown, takes place from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at the Colorado Mountain College climbing wall at the Spring Valley campus.

The Carbondale Recreation Department will again be conducting a Christmas holiday week full of fun for ages 7 and older.
The registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 15. Call 704-4116 for details. All transportation is provided to and from Town Hall for the activity, and is included in the cost.

The 15th annual Day of Infamy snowshoe race will be held Sunday, Dec. 10, at Sunlight Mountain Resort.
The event is an 8K race that winds through Babbish Gulch on Sunlight’s cross country trails. There are also two shorter loops, approximately one mile and three miles.
Preregistration is available at Summit Canyon, and day-of-race registration will be at the Sunlight day lodge beginning at 9 a.m. Registration includes a T-shirt and goodies bag. Cut off for preregistration is 6 p.m. Dec. 9.
The race benefits Garfield County animal shelters.
