A midwinter bouldering competition, sanctioned by the American Bouldering Series and USA Climbing, will be held from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at the Glenwood Springs Community Center climbing wall. The competition will include a series of 30 different bouldering problems challenging novice to expert climbers, and lots of prizes.For more information, call the GWS Community Center at 384-6301.



Join staff from the Colorado Division of Wildlife, Roaring Fork Conservancy, and Pitkin County Open Space and Trails from 6:30-8 p.m. Jan. 4 to explore 74 acres of open space by moonlight on snowshoes. Bring your own snowshoes or use a pair provided by the Roaring Fork Club. Emma Open Space boasts lush wetlands, snowy fields, and a critical migration corridor for deer and elk to move across the valley. Meet at the Emma Schoolhouse parking lot. This event is part of Roaring Fork Conservancys 2007 Watershed Explorations and is sponsored by Pitkin County Open Space & Trails, the Colorado Division of Wildlife, the Roaring Fork Club, and Roaring Fork Conservancy. The Rifle Area Chamber of Commerce, Colorado Sportsmen Wildlife Fund and Rifle Gap State Park are sponsoring the ninth annual Ice Fishing Tournament Jan. 20-21. The grand prize is $20,000 cash. Sunlight Mountain celebrates its 20th annual Skier Appreciation Day on Friday, Jan. 5. Sunlight features discounted lift tickets, drink specials and live music. A prize will be given to the best representation of the 80s in both attire and attitude, as well as other prizes.Discounted advance tickets are available at the Sunlight Mountain Resort Guest Services office, Sunlights downtown Ski & Bike Shop and Glenwood Springs Community Bank location until Jan. 4. Tickets may also be purchased on the day of the event at the Sunlight ticketing office. All ticket sales proceeds go to the Garfield County United Way. All Re-1 and Re-2 students who attend school on Friday, Jan. 5, receive a lift ticket voucher redeemable for a discounted lift ticket on Sunday, Jan. 14.
