The Glenwood Springs Community Center Ice rink is the place to be from 6-7:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, for an evening of skating, free hot dogs, hot chocolate and family fun. There will be fun games, contests and a prize giveaway. The skating is free and the Glenwood Springs Police Department is picking up the tab for skate rentals for anyone under 14 years old. Skates are limited, so bring your own if you have them.

Located on County Road 100 at the Gus Darien Arena, the Carbondale Ice Rink is now open for the season. The rink is open all day from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., weather permitting.
The rental hut will be open from 4 p.m. until approximately 8 p.m every day; weekend hours are an hour earlier. Please call the ice rink directly for details at 963-0923.
The Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) is taking public comments regarding revisions to management plans for deer in the Rifle Creek area. These management plans, called Data Analysis Unit (DAU) plans, contain population objectives and set goals for male-female ratios within populations.
Rifle Creek is encompassed by game management unit 33, the deer unit under consideration. GMU 33 covers the area northeast of Rifle, north of I-70, west of Canyon Creek and south of the White River-Colorado River divide.
The public is invited to submit written comments to: Colorado Division of Wildlife, Attention Stephanie Duckett, 711 Independent Ave., Grand Junction, CO 81505. Written comments should be submitted to the DOW by Jan. 15.
DAU plans are based on wildlife management principles and public input. Plans are revised approximately every 10 years.

The Rifle Area Chamber of Commerce, Colorado Sportsmen Wildlife Fund and Rifle Gap State Park are sponsoring the ninth annual Ice Fishing Tournament Jan. 20-21.
The grand prize is $20,000 cash. There are adult and youth divisions for rainbow trout, brown trout and yellow perch.
