Local Fishing Report — July 21, 2013

Fryingpan River

Flow: 160

Short and Sweet: Summer bugs and summer crowds, we all know what to expect in July on the Fryingpan. This being said, there is always a spot to fish, especially after 5 p.m! Strong PMD hatches are being seen river-wide this week, with the accompanying spinner falls occurring late in the day and throughout the following mornings. The guide tech in this valley is to nymph these spinner dries after the “fall.” Green drakes are starting to hatch in the LOWER miles of the Fryingpan, usually mid-day, especially when its cloudy. BWOs are still going strong as well, same times as the drakes. Caddis are thick in the middle river and down through to town, the evening dry fly action is red hot. The Bowl is fishing well right now too.

Hot Flies: Sparkle Stacker PMD 16, CDC PMD Comparadun 16-18, KGB Drake 10-12, BDE Drake 10-12, H and L Variant 10-12, Pearl and Elk Caddis 12-18, Goddard Caddis 16-18, Perfect Baetis 20, Roy’s Special Fryingpan Emerger 20, RS2 18-20, Pheasant Tail 20-24, 20 Incher 14, Bulbous PMD Emerger 16-18, Juju PMD 16-18, San Juan Worm 10, Tungstone 8-10, Cat Poop Stone 6-8, Slumpbuster 6-8, Sculpzilla 6-8
