RF Triathlon team competes at Tri for the Cure in Denver

The Tri for the Cure in Denver, a fundraiser for Bright Pink, saw 55 members of the Roaring Fork Women’s Triathlon Team cross the finish line after completing the sprint course of a half mile open water swim,11.5 mile bike ride, and 5K run at the Cherry Creek Reservoir.
The team produced seven podium winners with triathletes Sharma Phillips (35-39) placing third overall in the race and second in her age group, while Jessie Johnson (40-44) placing second in her age group.
Carla Westerman (50-54) won her age group, while Carol McCurry (65-69) won her age group as well for the Roaring Fork Women’s Triathlon team.
Maureen Nuckols (70-74) placed third in her age group as the relay Roaring Fork tri stars of Lupe Alvarado and Cate Bishop won the survivors relay division at Tri for the Cure.
For the 17th year, members of the Roaring Fork Women’s Triathlon Team have trained for 14 weeks to learn the basics of swim, bike and run/walking.
The team consists of first-time triathletes as well as elite alumni. The athletes range from Rifle to Basalt and are aged 30-76. The team is sponsored by Alpine Bank, Glenwood Hot Springs, Dalby Wendland and Co., Independence Run and Hike, Print Works, Sunshine Travel, Glenwood Medical Associates, Great Western Painting, Dental Technologies, and Jimmy John’s.
