CEDAREDGE, Colorado ” It wasn’t a great shooting night for the Coal Ridge Titans (8-1 overall, 5-1 3A Western Slope League) boys basketball team, but they were able to get out of Cedaredge (6-4, 4-3) with a 59-48 win.

Eric Schmitz led the way with 20 points, Jonathon Roessler had 13 points, and Rafael Fabela added nine more.

While their shots weren’t falling as often as they’d like, the Titans were attacking the rim the whole night, Titans coach Paul Harvey said. Defensively, Cedaredge was beating them on the high post, but Coal Ridge made halftime adjustments to come away with the win.

CARBONDALE, Colorado ” The Roaring Fork Rams weren’t marking their men on defense and that led to a 70-42 defeat at the hands of Meeker.

The Rams (1-8 overall, 1-6 3A WSL) gave up five 3-pointers in the second quarter and they weren’t able to come back from that. Meeker kept the Rams’ offense off-kilter, partly due to the Rams eagerness to shoot and not having the patience to look for a better shot, Rams coach Larry Williams said.

Jake Strack-Loetscher had nine points for Roaring Fork, Jake Hawkins added eight points and 10 rebounds, and Michael Black and Ryan Weimer each had eight points.

CARBONDALE, Colorado ” Roaring Fork’s girls basketball team stumbled to a 64-20 defeat in a non-league meeting with visiting Meeker on Friday.

The loss dropped the Rams to 0-9 overall and to 0-7 in the 3A WSL.

GUNNISON, Colorado ” Gunnison defeated Grand Valley 49-37 in girls basketball play on Friday.

The Cardinals fell to 5-4 overall and to 3-3 in the 3A WSL.
