Running through a difficult course in Aspen, the Glenwood Springs boys cross country team was still able to perform, taking fifth place as a team on Saturday.Due to technical problems at the race, individual times weren’t available, but Glenwood head coach Mike Schneiter was proud of his boys.”Ryan Yost, Kellen Fockler and Pearce Littler had excellent races,” he said. “It’s a hard course, and they proved their toughness.”The Glenwood girls, who were missing quite a few of their usual runners who were sitting out this week after hard training, took ninth. The remaining Demon girls stepped up in their absence.”Allison Brown had an excellent race and is proving to be more of a distance runner than she thought,” Schneiter said. “Rachel Sobke and Anna Wiltse also performed well.”The Demons will compete again next Saturday at the Montrose Relays.

The Grand Valley volleyball team managed to win one game in its match at Paonia on Friday night, but still fell to Paonia in four games.The Cardinals (2-6 Class 2A Western Slope League, 4-10 overall) will play another road match on Tuesday at Meeker.

In a tough weekend road trip, the Roaring Fork volleyball team lost in three games to Gunnison on Friday and lost in three to Olathe on Saturday.The Rams, now 2-6 in the Class 3A Western Slope League and 4-8 overall, will be off until Friday, when they host Coal Ridge at 5:30 p.m.
