Prep roundup: Rifle rolls Roaring Fork; Summit tops Coal Ridge in baseball
RIFLE — Layton Stutsman finished 2-for-3 batting with two RBIs and Gabe Marbas had two hits and pitched three solid innings, and Rifle High’s baseball team rolled to an 11-1 nonleague victory against Roaring Fork at Cooper Field on Wednesday.
Marbas finished 2-for-4 and Morgan Robinson scored two runs for the Bears (4-3 overall), who used a four-run third inning and three-run fourth to take control. Marbas allowed three of Roaring Fork’s four hits, notching two strikeouts with no walks. Robinson earned the pitching win, striking out six and walking three in two innings.
The Rams (0-6), who had four hits, loaded the bases twice but couldn’t capitalize.
Rifle plays a doubleheader at Battle Mountain Saturday. Roaring Fork is at Cedaredge, also on Saturday.
Summit 7, Coal Ridge 4
PEACH VALLEY — Jackson Sargent went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, but Summit pulled away from Coal Ridge in a nonleague game.
Sargent’s two-run single in the second inning tied it at 3-3, but the 4A Tigers scored five earned runs off starter Nathan Nelson to earn the victory.
