The Grand Valley volleyball team won the first game at Plateau Valley on Tuesday 25-8 and just kept rolling. The Cards went on to win the match 3-0 (25-8, 25-17, 25-23).The win was Grand Valley’s first in Class 2A Western Slope League play, as the Cards are now 1-4 in league and 3-8 overall.Next on the schedule for Grand Valley is a nonleague game at DeBeque on Thursday at 5 p.m.

The Rams picked up their first soccer win of the season in style on Thursday as Roaring Fork topped Paonia 2-1 in overtime in Carbondale.Christian Campos hammered home the winning goal two minutes into the first overtime period. Wylie Adams scored in regulation for the Rams.Roaring Fork (1-3-2 Class 3A Western Slope League and 1-3-2 overall) will have a week and a half off before its next game, which will take place Oct. 9 when the Rams will host Vail Mountain.

The Bears know how to hit.After totaling 60 runs in a doubleheader at Steamboat on Saturday, the Rifle softball team continued to swing hot bats on Tuesday, defeating Eagle Valley 19-1 in Eagle.With the victory, Rifle remains undefeated in the Class 4A Western Slope League at 4-0 and moved to 11-4 overall.On Thursday, the Bears will face Palisade, the only other undefeated team in the league, for a game at 5 p.m. in Palisade.
