CRAIG, Colorado ” A hat trick and an assist from Corey Gera helped Glenwood Springs to a 6-1 girls soccer win at Moffat County on Saturday.
Holly Brown added a goal and an assist for the Demons, who also saw Abbe Vincent and Ariel McCown score. Michaela Mansfield had two assists and Bryttnie Evans had one helper.
Glenwood improved to 9-1-0 with the win and will host Palisade at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
VAIL, Colorado ” Roaring Fork’s girls soccer team forced overtime, but wound up losing by way of a golden goal in a Saturday trip to Vail Christian.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” A lopsided 11-0 loss in the first of two baseball games with Delta on Saturday didn’t crush Glenwood Springs’ spirits. The Demons surged right back behind a complete-game pitching performance from Patrick Hailey to secure a 4-2 win in the nightcap.
Hailey surrendered just three hits and struck out five as Glenwood went ahead early on Garrett Hatch’s two-run home run in the second inning.
Mario Gonzalez drove in the Demons’ other two runs with a single and a sacrifice fly.
“It was good to beat them,” Glenwood Springs coach Eric Nieslanik said. “It was good to compete at that level with those guys.”
Coming into Saturday’s doubleheader, Delta owned a perfect 4A Western Slope League record.
Glenwood improved to 9-6 overall and 7-4 in league with the split, while Delta dropped to 8-1 in league play and 11-3 overall.
RIFLE, Colorado ” A two-run seventh inning propelled Rifle’s baseball team to a 9-7 win in the nightcap of a Saturday doubleheader with Palisade as the Bears salvaged a split with the visiting Bulldogs.
Chris Hesselberg recorded a complete-game victory for Rifle, which lost the day’s opener 11-7. Dwight Cerise homered and went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Tanner Wilcox was 3-for-4 and Matt Barrett went 2-for-3.
Cerise’s hitting paced the Bears (7-7 overall, 4-5 in the 4A WSL) in the first game. He went 3-for-4. Michael Cash was 2-for-3.
HOTCHKISS, Colorado ” Grand Valley’s Saturday baseball trip to Hotchkiss yielded a pair of defeats. The Bulldogs beat the Cardinals 8-1 and 1-0.
The wins moved Hotchkiss to 10-5 overall and to 8-4 in the 3A WSL. Grand Valley dropped to 2-12 overall and to 1-12 in league.
OLATHE, Colorado ” Big innings continued to plague Coal Ridge’s baseball squad in a Saturday journey to Olathe.
Olathe jumped all over the Titan pitching to win 12-1 in the first game and then took advantage of a bevy of Coal Ridge errors en route to a 17-3 triumph in the day’s second game.
Josh Alsop had a standout day at the plate for the Titans, going 3-for-6.
Coal Ridge, which will travel to Eagle Valley for a game this afternoon, fell to 1-11.
CEDAREDGE, Colorado ” After losing the opener of a Saturday’s baseball twin bill at Cedaredge 17-0, Roaring Fork made quite the game out of the nightcap, losing 3-2.
The Rams fell to 4-9 overall and to 4-7 in the 3A WSL.
DURANGO, Colorado ” Glenwood Springs nearly parlayed Saturday’s long trip to Durango into a girls tennis victory on Saturday, losing 4-3.
Courtney Bender and Jackie Nickel provided two of Glenwood’s wins at No. 2 and 3 singles , respectively.
