Preps roundup: Demons down Devils in boys soccer; Roaring Fork volleyball wins

It was a busy weekend for area boys soccer and girls volleyball teams, in addition to the full slate of spring football games on Friday night and Saturday.

Boys soccer

Glenwood Springs 2, Eagle Valley 0

The Demons soccer team got back on the winning track after a Thursday defeat to league-leading Battle Mountain, with a 2-0 home win over Eagle Valley on Saturday.

Senior Justin Garces scored both of Glenwood’s goals, one in each half of the game, and the Demons defense kept the Devils out of the net for the shutout win. Junior Kevin Popoca had the assist on one of the Demons goals.

Glenwood (4-2) holds down the second spot in the 4A Western Slope League behind the undefeated Battle Mountain Huskies, who play host to the Demons for a rematch at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Summit 3, Rifle 2

In other Saturday soccer action, it was the Rifle Bears at Summit in a 4A league matchup. The Tigers scored two goals in the first and another in the second, as Rifle managed one goal in each half, coming up just short of claiming a win.

The Bears (0-5) travel to Gypsum to face Eagle Valley at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Volleyball scores: Roaring Fork 3, Gunnison 1; Delta 3, Coal Ridge 0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-21).
