Preps wrestling: Grand Valley takes down Glenwood Springs
Battling it out at a quadrangular in Grand Junction Saturday night, Grand Valley tied Glenwood Springs and defeated Basalt.
The Cardinals also recorded two team losses, falling to Montrose and Grand Junction.
Grand Valley 18, Glenwood 18; Grand Valley 18, Basalt 9
Highlights for the Cardinals included Teagan Jacobs pinning Malachi Sandoval at 1:43 in a 106-pound matchup. At 132, Hector De La Cruz took Leo Merez, 2-0. At 138, Keenan Strauss pinned Paul Schenk at 54 seconds. At 145, Derrick was winning at 10-2 but caught in a cradle and was pinned by the Demon Kodiak Kellogg at 1:39.
Other wins for Grand Valley included Cristian Barragon winning 13-6 over Cam Smalls in a 182-matchup. At 220, Brayden Harper pinned Alexis Garcia in 2:54. Hayden Grice won by fall over Jose Munoz at 43 seconds.
Highlights for Glenwood Springs included Nate Sandoval winning by 54-second fall over Philip Hoyt at 120 pounds. At 160, Jo John Ritter won by fall at 1:42 over Jordan Cedeno.
For Basalt, at 152, Ryan Zheng beat Dominic Mendoza 7-6. At 170, Brady Samuelson won by fall at 37 seconds over Taylor Drinkhouse.
Grand Junction 36, Grand Valley 35
Highlights for the Cardinals included Hector De La Cruz winning by fall at 3:02 over Colton Romero, at 126. At 132, Keenan Struass won 12-8 over Colton Romero. At 145, Derrick Medina won by fall over Peyton Harris. Cristian Barragon won by 19-4 tech fall over River Mulvey.
Montrose 48, Grand Valley 30
Highlights for the Cardinals included Teagan Jacobs pinning Cooper Brady at 4:46 in a 106-pound matchup. At 126, Hector De La Cruz won by fall over Austin Zimmer in 2:52. At 132, Keenan Strauss won by fall over Kolton Kohick in 2:52. At 145, Derrick Medina won over Jake Green in 1:56.
Rifle 48, Bayfield 29
Rifle took on Bayfield on Friday night during a triangular that also included Pagosa Springs.
Highlights included Parker Miller winning by 2:49 fall over James Mars, at 132 pounds. At 138, Bryce Rowley won by 2:36 fall over Morgen Hastings. At 285, Corey Edwards won by 29-second fall over Jordan Sands.
Pagosa Springs 57, Rifle 18
Rifle suffered a loss to Pagosa Springs in the same triangular Friday.
At 138, Bryce Rowley won by 3:45 fall over Chandler Mazar. At 195, Alex Guardado won by 5:16 fall over Trevor Moore. At 132, Parker Miller won by 3:04 fall over Tommy Barker.
Meeker 27, Glenwood 12
Glenwood Springs lost to Meeker in a Friday dual.
Highlights for the Demons include Malachi Sandoval winning by 4:32 fall over Coy Richardson. At 132, Leobardo Meraz won by 5:24 fall over Jake Blazon.
Grand Valley 45, Rifle 36
Rifle took on Grand Valley during a Thursday dual.
Highlights for the Bears included Parker Miller winning by 4:47 fall over Keenan Struass, at 132 pounds. At 195, Alex Guardado won by 3:20 fall over Brayden Harper. At 113, Kellen Johnson beat Clancy Swindell with a 2:56 fall.
Highlights for the Cardinals included Derrick Medina winning by 3:36 fall over Caidyn Wilcox. At 160, Jordan Cedeno won by fall over Marcus Washington. At 182, Cristian Barragon won by 8-3 decision over Grand Houser. At 126, Hector De La Cruz won by 1:41 fall over James Webb.
