Q&A with the Coach

Like three other area playoffs teams led by first-year coaches, the Glenwood Springs boys soccer team also has a new figure on the sidelines calling the shots. Craig Plizga, who is brand new to the team, took over for Bob Guska and Dave Shepard this season and guided the Demons to a 10-2-0 Class 4A Western Slope League record and 12-3-0 overall. The Demons made it to the first round of the playoffs before being knocked out by DEvelyn, 3-1, on Oct. 26. After completing his first year as head coach, Plizga answered these questions about his experience. Team: Glenwood Springs boys soccerAge: 33Position before becoming the teams head coach: I was and still am a classroom teacher at Glenwood Springs Middle School.Best moment this year: Watching the emotions of my players during the first Rifle game. The intensity before the game the thrill of being ahead at halftime, and finally the joy of victory at the end of the game.Biggest coaching lesson ever learned: Watching, listening and learning from those people around you!Biggest risk taken as a head coach: No comment. Why will you be better next year? We should again be strong next year because of the great players I have returning. Next year I should have a better understanding of how the teams within the league play, including my own.
