GUNNISON – Big-margin wins by Roaring Fork’s boys and girls basketball teams over Gunnison boosted both squads to 9-2 in the Class 3A Western Slope League and a share of second place.

Five players, led by senior Tarn Udall, who scored 20 points, finished in double figures in Saturday’s 78-44 laugher.



Jessi Rochel had 16, Carly Velasquez and Ashley Jensen added 13 points each and Brie Bath contributed 10.

Roaring Fork took command early. The Rams took a 26-8 lead in the first quarter, extended the margin to 48-18 at the half, then outscored the Cowboys in the third quarter by four.

Stevie Henkel led the Cowboys, who fell to 1-10 (2-13), with 17 points.

GUNNISON 49

GUNNISON – Not to be outdone, the Ram boys wrapped up the second game of the varsity doubleheader with a 72-49 victory, which featured strong performances from Aaron Markham and Dan Markoya.

Markham led all scorers with 25 points, which included three field goals from beyond the 3-point line.

Markoya was just as hot. He finished the contest with 20 points while center Nic Lough tossed in 15 during the rout.

Roaring Fork put the game away with a 24-2 run in the first quarter.

Nick Spallone led Gunnison with 16 points.

The Rams conclude the regular season this week starting Friday at home with Eagle Valley, followed by a road game at Cedaredge Saturday afternoon.
