Rams fall in first round of 3A girls soccer playoffs

LAYFAYETTE — Roaring Fork High School’s girls soccer team was eliminated from the Class 3A state playoffs on Friday, falling 5-0 to the Kent Denver Sun Devils at Peak to Peak High School.

Kent Denver (9-5-1 overall), the 13th seed in the state playoff bracket, advanced to play The Academy (14-1-1) in today’s second round. Roaring Fork (12-3-1), the third-place finisher in the Western Slope League and the tournament’s 20th seed, wasn’t able to get a shot on goal.

“They had 24 people on their team,” Roaring Fork coach Heather Fox said. “And it seemed like every time they subbed, they didn’t skip a beat. They are absolutely the best team that we’ve played this season.”

Kent Denver held a 3-0 halftime lead.

Fox credited her team — all 14 of them — for not letting up at any point in the game.

“We were a younger team, and we battled through a lot of injuries and illness this season,” she said. “These girls gave it everything they had.”
