Rams land four girls on all-league team

Roaring Fork’s dominance in girls basketball continued past the 2004-05 season.The Rams, who ended the year with a second straight appearance in the Class 3A state tournament, had four players earn Western Slope first-team, all-league honors in a vote by the league’s coaches, the most first-team picks in the 3A WSL.Senior Carly Velasquez repeated as a first-team selection. Teammates Megan Zeigel, Laura Wright and Whitney Campbell were also first-teamers.Joining them on the 12-member team was Deanna Spracher of Basalt.Zeigel, a senior, led a balanced Rams scoring attack, averaging 10.4 points per game. Campbell, a junior, followed closely with a 10.2 scoring mark, while leading the team with 25 3-point field goals.Velasquez, a four-year starter at guard who led Roaring Fork in assists, was the team’s co-leader in steals with Campbell, and averaged seven points per game.Wright, a junior, scored 8.6 points a contest and was the Rams’ leading rebounder.Spracher was a handful for opposing defenses to tackle. She led the 8-15 Longhorns in scoring average, field goals, assists, free throws and steals.Four other area players received honorable-mention honors.Those getting the nod included Kelsea Mulcahy, Lindsey Soucie and Dayne Toney, of Basalt, and Ashley Jensen, from Roaring Fork.Cedaredge’s Amber Koroshetz was voted the league’s player of the year. Virginia Roberts of Hotchkiss was coach of the year.
